Is it permissible to complete the recitation of the Quran on behalf of one's parents while they are still alive?

Scholars have divided the permissibility of transferring rewards for acts of devotion to others into three categories:

1. A category where Allah Almighty has restricted His servants from transferring its reward to others, such as faith (iman) and monotheism (tawhid). 2. A category where jurists have agreed that Allah Almighty has permitted the transfer of its reward, which includes financial acts of devotion like charity (sadaqah) and manumission. 3. A category where there is disagreement: The Hanafis and Hanbalis hold that it is permissible to transfer the reward of acts of worship performed by a person to others, whether living or deceased. They cite as evidence what the Prophet (peace be upon him) did with the sacrifice (udhiyah) on behalf of his Ummah and the family of Muhammad. The majority of Malikis and Shafi'is do not permit the transfer of the reward for prayer, fasting, Hajj, and Quran recitation to others.
