What is the meaning of "dabbāgh" or "dābigh" in the saying of Ali, may God be pleased with him: "Eat pomegranates with their pulp, for they are a 'dabbāgh' for the stomach"?

Tanning is the process by which hide is treated to remove its moisture and putrefaction, using tree leaves and bark, salt, and chemical substances. "Tanning the stomach with pomegranate" means to rectify it. Ibn al-Qayyim mentioned in Zad al-Ma'ad that sweet pomegranate is warm and moist, good for the stomach and strengthens it. The aforementioned tradition was narrated by Ahmad and others.
