Is the soul filled with deficiencies and flaws, and is that why Allah Almighty said: "He has succeeded who purifies it, and he has failed who corrupts it," and if so, why did Allah Almighty say: "You do not see any discordance in the creation of the Most Gracious. Then look again: do you see any flaws?"
Purification of the soul is among the most important matters, for Allah has promised success and Paradise to whoever purifies their soul, and the Prophet was sent to purify people. The human soul is predisposed to both good and evil. Allah has condemned following whims and desires, and mentioned that the soul is inclined to evil. Some scholars have spoken about the diseases of the hearts and the necessity of knowing their cure. Al-Ghazali believes that they are inherent in every human being, while others believe that they are prevalent but not inherent. The verse about dominion (Ayat al-Mulk) does not speak about the soundness of souls, but rather about the perfect creation of the heavens and all creatures.
