How many missed prayers should be made up daily, and is there a consensus on making up ten of them? Is there a consensus on the obligation of immediate make-up? Making up missed prayers is a religious obligation, not an innovation, whether they were missed due to forgetfulness or sleep. This is supported by the Prophet’s (peace be upon him) saying: "Whoever forgets a prayer, let him pray it when he remembers it, for there is no expiation for it except that." As for one who intentionally misses a prayer, the majority of scholars hold that it is obligatory to make it up. The makeup is obligatory immediately, and a Muslim should perform it according to his ability and capacity, but he is not required to harm himself or disrupt his livelihood. If immediate makeup would result in physical or financial harm, he may make them up in installments. There is no consensus on making up ten days' worth of prayers in one day; rather, it is sufficient to make up two or more days' worth of prayers in a single day, as long as he does not fear neglecting his dependents.
