What is the ruling on eating shrimp (prawns) and what is known as bitter melon (حنظل)?

Shrimp is a small marine animal. There is no harm in eating it because it falls under permissible sea game. As for colocynth, it is a bitter plant, and there is no harm in eating it as long as it does not cause any harm.
