What is the meaning of the word "light" (النور) in the Holy Quran, and how is the misconception that God is light in His essence refuted based on the verse "Allah is the Light of the heavens and the earth" and the Hadith "I saw light"?

Allah the Almighty is Light, and Light is one of Allah’s Most Beautiful Names and one of His exalted attributes. It is an essential attribute of His Being, befitting Him, such that He has always been and will always be described by it. As Ibn Al-Qayyim said: "Since Light is one of His Beautiful Names and attributes, His religion is light and His Messenger is light." The interpretation by some of the Salaf of His saying, "Allah is the Light of the heavens and the earth," as meaning He is the Guide of the inhabitants of the heavens and the earth, or their Illuminator, does not contradict the fact that He is Light in His essence. These interpretations do not negate the other attributes of the One named; rather, they may be concomitant. His Light, glory be to Him, does not resemble the light of creation; rather, it is a light befitting His greatness and majesty, and none knows its true nature save He.
