Does the parable in Surat An-Nur concerning Allah’s light mean that the light of the niche is similar to His light, or is it a similitude for it, given that Ahlus-Sunnah wal-Jama'ah affirm the attributes of Allah Almighty without anthropomorphism?

Light is an inherent attribute of Allah, and "Light" is one of Allah's Most Beautiful Names. Scholars differed in interpreting the verse (Allah is the Light of the heavens and the earth. The example of His light is like a niche in which is a lamp), whether it is among the verses describing attributes or not. Nevertheless, they affirmed the attribute of Light for Allah the Almighty.

This difference in opinion stems from two views: The first: It is not among the verses describing attributes, and its meaning is: the Guide of the heavens and the earth. The second: It is among the verses describing attributes, and the attribution of light is the attribution of an attribute to its possessor.

They also differed on the pronoun in His saying (the example of His light): The first: It refers back to Allah, meaning like His guidance in the heart of the believer. The second: It refers back to the believer, meaning like the light of the believer that is in his heart.

Regardless of the pronoun's referent, the purpose of the verse is to provide an example to make the meaning understandable, without anthropomorphizing or likening Allah's essence or attributes.

Allah has named Himself Light, and has made His Book, His Messenger, and His religion light. He has veiled Himself from His creation with light, and has made the abode of His saints light.

Light is attributed to Allah in two ways: As an attribute added to its possessor, such as His saying, the Exalted: ﴿AND THE EARTH WILL SHINE WITH THE LIGHT OF ITS LORD﴾. As an object added to its doer, in that He is the illuminator and guide of the heavens and the earth.

This example of Allah's light is in the heart of His believing servant, where the heart of the believer and the guidance within it are likened to pure oil, and what it receives from the Qur'an and the Law is likened to good oil, so that the light may shine in his heart.
