What are the conditions and regulations for a 10-year-old to own a pet?

Raising pets is permissible in Islam, and this is evidenced by the Prophet's (peace be upon him) approval of a child playing with a bird. However, there are conditions and regulations for this:

1. The animal acquired must not be a dog, except for a guard dog or a hunting dog, because angels do not enter a house that contains a dog.

2. Not to exaggerate in acquiring them to the extent of reprehensible extravagance.

3. Treating the animal kindly by providing food and drink and not harming it. It was narrated from the Prophet (peace be upon him) that a man was forgiven because he gave water to a thirsty dog, and that a woman entered Hellfire because she imprisoned a cat until it died.
