Who is Samuel, does he have another name, and is Saul David or just a king?
The prophet referred to in theversa of Surat Al-Baqarah, from verse (246) to verse (251), is the Prophet of Allah, Samuel (Shamwil).
The verses indicate that the Children of Israel asked their prophet to appoint a king for them so they could fight in the way of Allah. So, their prophet Samuel, by Allah's command, chose Saul (Talut) as king for them. David, peace be upon him, was among Saul's soldiers. Then he killed Goliath (Jalut), and Allah bestowed upon him kingship and wisdom.
