Must one who broke fast in successive Ramadans due to an illicit relationship make up the missed fasts consecutively or intermittently? And does she owe expiation by feeding for each day? Is it permissible to give the expiation in money? And if the number of needy persons is not available, is it permissible to give it to a single person?

Praise be to Allah for the girl's repentance from the illicit relationship. She must make up the prayers and days of fasting she missed. She should spend her time, beyond her essential needs, in making up the prayers. She should fast the days she is able to and make up the missed fasts immediately. It is not permissible for her to substitute feeding for fasting except in cases of continuous inability due to illness or old age. As for intercourse during the day in Ramadan, it does not necessitate expiation unless it spoiled a fast that she had intended. There is no expiation due for delaying the making up of Ramadan fasts until after the next Ramadan, unless she knew the obligation to make them up between the two Ramadans. The expiation for delay is feeding a poor person for each day (approximately 750 grams of rice). It is not permissible to give money instead, except in cases of necessity. It is permissible to give the expiation to a single person. And Allah knows best.
