Is it permissible to take out a loan from a bank to purchase a body organ for a man who is unable to afford it and is suffering from kidney failure that may lead to death? And is it permissible for another person to take out a loan from the bank to help this patient?

If a person is compelled to purchase an organ and fears perishing, and finds no money, nor anyone to lend to him except through usury (riba), then there is no sin upon him in borrowing with usury, according to the Almighty's saying: "But whoever is compelled, neither desiring [it] nor transgressing, there is no sin upon him." As for a person borrowing with usury to help a patient when he himself is capable of borrowing (without riba), this is not permissible, because it is committing a major sin for the sake of a commendable act. However, if the patient is unable to borrow, then there is no harm for someone else to borrow to save him.
