What is the ruling on increasing the glorifications (tasbih) in bowing (ruku') and prostration (sujud) beyond three times, or decreasing them to less than five in prostration, and should one lengthen the bowing and prostration in night prayers by increasing the glorifications?

The minimum perfection for the glorifications (tasbeehat) in bowing (ruku') and prostration (sujood) is three glorifications. As for increasing them, there is no limit to that, and the more a worshipper increases in glorification, the better it is, unless he is an imam, in which case he should not prolong it to an extent that causes hardship to the congregants. It is permissible to suffice with a single glorification, for the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, commanded glorification but did not mention a number. Perfection in glorification for an individual worshipper is what does not lead him to forgetfulness, and for an imam, it is what does not cause hardship to the congregants. In night prayers, it is legislated to prolong standing, bowing, and prostration so that they are proportionate.
