Maintaining kinship ties (Silat al-Rahim) is obligatory, and severing them is forbidden, as the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "A severer of kinship will not enter Paradise." Therefore, it is not permissible to abandon aunts, even if they behave badly or commit injustice. Rather, maintaining ties with them is obligatory, but in a manner that does not cause harm.
