What should I do with the wallet I found in the Grand Mosque of Mecca containing a sum of money, especially since my stay in Mecca was for a limited period?

Scholars have differed regarding a lost item found in the Haram (definition) (sanctuary): Is it like a lost item found outside the Haram, becoming one's possession after publicizing it for a year, or does it never become one's possession at all? Some scholars hold that it becomes one's possession due to the generality of the Hadiths. Others, like Sheikh al-Islam Ibn Taymiyyah, are of the view that it never becomes one's possession; rather, it must be publicized indefinitely, based on the statement: "Its lost item is not lawful except for one who publicizes it." As for a lost item found in Mecca, it is not permissible to pick it up except for one who intends to publicize it indefinitely or hand it over to the ruler, based on the Prophet's (peace and blessings be upon him) saying: "Its lost item is not lawful except for one who publicizes it." It must be publicized in Mecca and its surroundings or handed over to the competent authorities.
