What is the ruling regarding a husband's oath that he will not accept his wife's return to his house if she leaves without his permission, in the event that the wife wishes to return after having left, and what should he do if she does not return?

A wife who disobeys her husband in what is right, or leaves his house without his permission, is considered a nashiz (rebellious). The husband has the right to discipline her and the right to withhold financial support from her until she ceases her rebellion. If the wife leaves and the husband accepts her return after a prohibition [he might have imposed], then the prohibition takes effect. The preponderant opinion is that the prohibition of a wife depends on the husband's intention: if he intended divorce, zihar (a form of divorce), or an oath, then each has its own ruling. A woman's love for her mother is commendable, but excessiveness in it to the extent that it affects the husband's rights is unacceptable, and the husband's right takes precedence over the rights of parents.
