The answer

We have previously explained that the Sutra has no specific necessary characteristics and can be made of anything. Its height should be about a cubit, as Ibn Qudamah stated in Al-Mughni: "The length of the Sutra is a cubit or thereabouts." The end of a saddle varies in length, so whatever approximates a cubit is sufficient. As for its thickness and thinness, there is no limit, as it can be as thin as an arrow or as thick as a wall. The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, used an Anaza (a staff shorter than a spear) as a Sutra. A cubit, in Islamic measure, is 61.2 cm.
