Do Muslims inherit from their non-Muslim relatives, and vice versa, and what do Muslims say about the inheritance of people of different religions from one another?

Difference in religion prevents inheritance. Thus, a disbeliever does not inherit from a Muslim, nor does a Muslim inherit from a disbeliever, based on the saying of the Prophet, peace be upon him: "A Muslim does not inherit from a disbeliever, nor does a disbeliever inherit from a Muslim." However, if the disbeliever embraces Islam before the division of the inheritance, he inherits according to Imam Ahmad. As for the inheritance among the people of disbelief themselves, it is established even if their religions differ, according to Abu Hanifa and Al-Shafi'i, and in one narration from Ahmad.
