What is required of a woman who has undergone a uterine operation and is now experiencing bleeding outside of her menstrual period?
The blood discharged after uterine surgeries due to wounds is considered dysfunctional blood (fasad) and not menstruation (hayd). The duration of its discharge is determined by doctors. If this blood coincides with a woman's regular menstrual period or exhibits the characteristics of menstrual blood (color and odor), then whatever coincides with the regular period is considered menstruation, and what precedes and follows it is considered irregular bleeding (istihada). If the bleeding continues between two menstrual periods after the duration specified by the doctor, and it is due to the surgery, then the previous ruling applies. However, if it is not related to the surgery, then there are two cases: either it is continuous and only stops for a short while, in which case it is irregular bleeding (istihada) and she observes her regular menstrual days. Or, if the bleeding stops for fifteen days or more and then returns, it is considered a new menstrual period. However, if it occurs before fifteen days of purity (tuhur) have passed, it is considered dysfunctional blood (fasad).
