What is the correct interpretation of the Almighty's saying: "And from all fruits He made therein two mates" given that there are fruits containing more or less than two mates?

The exegetes have explained that the intent of the "pair" in the noble verse refers to the multiplicity of categories, such as sweet and sour, and it could be more than two. It is also possible that the intent is masculinity and femininity, as is the case with palm trees. Al-Razi understood the verse to mean that what is intended by "pairing" is what occurred at the beginning of creation, where Allah created only two pairs of each type of plant, and then the rest of the plants procreated from them, just as the creation of humans began with Adam and Eve.
