Is it permissible for the worshippers to refuse to return to the Grand Mosque after its renovation, and to prefer the small mosque, which has led to the division of the congregation, knowing that the dispute is limited to the validity of Friday prayer in the small mosque?

During the era of the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) and the Rightly Guided Caliphs, Jumu'ah prayer was not performed in more than one mosque in the major cities. Therefore, jurists are of the opinion that it is not permissible to establish it in more than one mosque in a town unless there is a need (such as the town's size, the dispersion of its regions, the distance or narrowness of the mosque, or fear of sedition). If it is multiplied without need, then the valid one is that which the Imam directly led or authorized. If they are equal in authorization or lack thereof, the second one is invalid. If both occurred simultaneously with no distinction for either, then both are void. The matter is referred to the Ministry of Endowments to determine the mosque or mosques in which Jumu'ah prayer is to be performed.
