What is the ruling on Islamic anasheed, and is it true that they are a Sufi practice?

Both the recitation and listening to Islamic anthems (Anasheed) are permissible, as long as they do not include forbidden musical instruments. The use of Anasheed by Sufis in their gatherings and Mawlids does not make Islamic Anasheed inherently Sufi, for the Companions used to recite Anasheed, and the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, would recite with them.
