What is the way to relieve the distress of an adult who has dedicated himself to worship, remembrance, charity, and supplication for more than 17 years, yet his prayers have not been answered, and he has begun to feel his faith weakening?

God's choice for His servant is better than his choice for himself, and man does not know what is best for him. The answer to supplication may vary: God may grant the supplicant what he asked for, or avert from him an equivalent evil, or save it for him in the Hereafter. God does not reject the supplication of a believer, but the benefit might be in delaying the answer or compensating him with something better than what he asked for. Therefore, the supplicant should not be hasty, but rather be patient and content with God's decree, for his patience will not be in vain.
