Is it permissible for a wife to take her husband's money, which is temporarily entrusted to her, to deter him from illicit relationships, or to take what suffices her for life's necessities, fearing that he might divorce her after 40 years of marriage? And what should she do?

If the husband engages in illicit relationships, he has committed a grave wrong. The wife should continue to advise him and pray for his guidance.

The wife is not permitted to dispose of her husband's money without his permission, even if it is for the purpose of disciplining him. A Muslim's wealth is not lawful except with his willing consent.

If the husband is providing for her maintenance, the wife is not permitted to take from his money out of fear of divorce. However, if he withholds maintenance, she may take what is sufficient for herself and her child according to what is customary.

The husband is not permitted to abandon his wife or refuse to provide maintenance. Otherwise, the wife has the right to refer the matter to the Sharia judge.
