What is the guidance of the verses that state that Allah Almighty has placed coverings over the hearts of the disbelievers and veils over their eyes, and has sealed them, and that He deafens and blinds them from the truth, knowing that Allah Almighty does not compel anyone to disbelieve?

Al-Shinqiti mentioned that Allah, the Exalted, clarifies in many verses that the impediments to hearts, hearing, and sight, such as sealing (ختم), imprinting (طبع), veiling (غشاوة), and covering (أكنة), are a fitting recompense for their proactive disbelief and rejection of messengers by their own choice. He cited verses such as: "Nay, but Allah has sealed them for their disbelief" (بل طبع الله عليها بكفرهم), "So when they went astray, Allah caused their hearts to deviate" (فلما زاغوا أزاغ الله قلوبهم), "That is because they believed, then disbelieved, so a seal was set upon their hearts" (ذلك بأنهم آمنوا ثم كفروا فطبع على قلوبهم), "In their hearts is a disease, so Allah increased their disease" (في قلوبهم مرضٌ فزادهم الله مرضاً), "And We will turn away their hearts and their eyes just as they did not believe in it the first time, and We will leave them in their transgression, wandering blindly" (ونقلب أفئدتهم وأبصارهم كما لم يؤمنوا به أول مرة ونذرهم في طغيانهم يعمهون), and "Nay, but that which they used to earn has stained their hearts" (كلا بل ران على قلوبهم ما كانوا يكسبون). He explained that the sealing of hearts is a punishment from Allah for prior disbelief, and this refutes the شبهة (misconception/doubt) of the Jabariyyah (determinists).
