What is the religious ruling on facial peeling?

Many scholars consider face peeling forbidden because it alters Allah's creation and causes harm. They equate it to the forbidden plucking (namṣ), the doer of which is cursed, based on Abdullah ibn Mas'ud's statement: "May Allah curse those who tattoo and those who have themselves tattooed, those who pluck eyebrows (al-mutanammiṣāt), and those who file their teeth for beauty, altering Allah's creation." As for removing melasma with medications, there is no objection to it, as long as it does not involve peeling.
