Should a young man who has confessed his past sins, repented sincerely, and desires to marry a committed woman to help him obey Allah be engaged?

If the young man proposing to you has repented with sincere repentance, then he is among those whose religion and character are pleasing, according to the words of the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him: "If there comes to you one whose religion and character you approve, then marry him. If you do not do so, there will be tribulation on earth and widespread corruption." Repentance erases what came before it, and one who repents from a sin is like one who has no sin. We advise you to marry him if he is serious, and he must ask for your hand from your family, and you must cut off your relationship with him until the marriage contract is concluded. Caution must be exercised to ensure that his mention of repentance is not a ploy to entice you, and he should have concealed himself, according to his words, peace and blessings be upon him: "Whoever is afflicted with any of these abominations, let him conceal himself with the concealment of Allah."
