Are those equal who repent of smoking out of fear of illness and those who abandon it in obedience to Allah's command?

Whoever gives up smoking out of fear of Allah will be rewarded for it, based on the Prophet's (peace be upon him) saying: "And if he intended to do a bad deed but did not do it, Allah records it with Him as a complete good deed." And in another narration: "If he abandoned it, they would record it for him as a good deed, for he abandoned it because of Me." As for whoever gives it up out of fear of illness, he will not be rewarded for it, because he did not abandon it with the intention of drawing closer to Allah.
