What is the ruling on one who decided to quit smoking for the sake of Allah, then returned to it after two years?

1 min readAlso available in العربية

We have previously explained the prohibition of smoking, and that persistence in it makes it one of the major sins. So, whoever repents from it with sincere repentance and then returns to it, must quit it and renew his repentance. He does not owe expiation as long as he did not swear an oath to abandon it. Among the things that help in getting rid of this habit are serious determination, keeping the company of the righteous, and avoiding places of sin, bad friends, and smokers.
