Bringing the heart to the Quran and feeling that the Speaker is Allah when reciting it increases faith. Ibn al-Qayyim emphasized that benefitting from the Quran occurs by focusing one's heart during its recitation and listening, along with lending an ear and being present as one addressed by Allah. Similarly, al-Nawawi said that humility and contemplation are necessary during recitation, for this is what expands hearts and illuminates minds. He cited Allah's words: (Do they not then ponder on the Quran?), and (A Book We have sent down to you, full of blessings, that they may ponder on its verses). Among the sayings of Ibrahim al-Khawwas is that the heart's cure lies in five things, one of which is reciting the Quran with contemplation. It has been narrated that the Salaf, including the Prophet (peace be upon him), Abu Dharr, Tamim al-Dari, and Asma bint Abi Bakr, used to repeat certain verses and contemplate them until morning.
