The answer

Filial piety and obedience to parents in what is good are among the most obligatory duties and the best acts of devotion. Therefore, be keen to obey them in beneficial matters they command, as long as they cause no harm. Avoid whatever displeases them, and always speak to them with gentleness, staying away from anything that might hurt them. Filial piety is one of the greatest reasons for Allah's help and success in acquiring beneficial knowledge and righteous deeds, and a cause for success in this world and the Hereafter; for the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "The parent is the middle of the gates of Paradise, so if you wish, squander this gate or preserve it."
