What is the ruling on eating snake meat for medical treatment?

Eating the meat of snakes and vipers is not permissible according to the majority of scholars, and this is for several reasons: Snakes prey with their fangs, and the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, forbade eating any predatory animal with fangs. Also, the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, commanded their killing, and they are considered repulsive. Furthermore, it is not permissible to seek healing through forbidden things, for Allah has not placed our cure in that which He has forbidden to us.
