This world is a place of trial and tribulation, and the believer experiences varying circumstances within it. Allah Almighty says: "And We test you with evil and with good as trial; and to Us you will be returned." The believer must remember Allah's blessings upon him and be patient with what Allah has withheld, anticipating the wisdom of the Wisest of Judges. For His withholding is a bestowal, and His tribulation is a cure. Ibn al-Qayyim says that Allah does not withhold from His servant out of stinginess or deficiency, but rather to turn him back to Him and to let him taste the sweetness of submission. The withholding is a bestowal, even if it appears as a prohibition, and the tribulation is a cure, even if it appears as an affliction. The Muslim should take the necessary means to remove tribulation, such as supplication, humble entreaty, repentance, charity, and seeking medical treatment. A man may marry another wife to seek progeny without divorcing the first, provided he adheres to justice and has the ability to bear the costs of marriage.
