What is the ruling on the scrupulous person (a person suffering from obsessive-compulsive disorder) adopting the easier opinion among scholars? Does this apply to matters of desires and jurisprudential differences? Is he permitted to adopt the easier opinion in all matters? What is the ruling on seeking concessions through the sayings of scholars if one is unable to cease committing a sin?

It is permissible for someone afflicted with Waswas (obsessive doubts) to adopt the easier of the scholars' opinions to the extent of his need to repel these Waswas. However, to seek out dispensations when there is no need for them is blameworthy. As for the ignorant person, he must follow the scholars whom he trusts. He is not permitted to seek a dispensation from another scholar's opinion that condones a sin he is committing; rather, he must repent from it. For whoever seeks out the dispensations of every scholar will have gathered all evil.
