What should a woman do if she has about sixty days of fasting to make up for, from two consecutive Ramadans, due to pregnancy, childbirth, and breastfeeding, and she suffers from weakness and a deficiency in vitamins and minerals, and she feels extreme fatigue when she attempts to fast? Can she pay expiation (kaffarah), and what is its amount?
You must make up for all the days you missed. You are not permitted to feed the poor or pay expiation (fidyah) as long as you are able to fast, due to the Almighty’s saying: "And whoever is ill or on a journey - then an equal number of other days." If you are able to fast during Ramadan, it is apparent that you are able to make up for the missed days. You must make them up, even on short days, by seeking help through a good pre-dawn meal (suhoor) and supplication (du'a). Ordinary tiredness and exhaustion are not justifications for not making up the fasts. If you fall ill during the fast and cannot complete it, there is no blame upon you for breaking your fast and making up that day later.
