Is it permissible to return to listening to music with the intention of gradually reducing it, after having stopped for a period and having a strong desire to return to it?
Abandoning listening to songs, especially those containing musical instruments or music, is the correct path, for they are forbidden according to the most authoritative opinion. What contains indecency or incites vice is even more sinful. Allah has replaced for the Muslim the listening to the Qur’an, by which the heart is tranquilized and faith increases. There is no harm in listening to permissible, purposeful anasheeds (vocal chants) that are not accompanied by musical instruments. One should accustom oneself to loving good deeds and avoiding sins and doubtful matters.
