Among the things that aid in repentance and steadfastness are sincere recourse to Allah and seeking His help, and searching for righteous company and an environment that assists in that. It is recommended for the penitent to leave the places where sins were committed and evil companions, and to replace them with the company of good and righteous people who can be emulated. Music accompanied by singing is forbidden. As for the reprehensible thoughts that cross one's mind, there is no accountability for them unless they are spoken aloud, and one must repel and get rid of them.
