The answer

A sick person whose recovery is not expected must feed a poor person for each day he misses fasting, according to the Almighty's saying: ﴿And upon those who are able to fast, but with difficulty, is a ransom: feeding a poor person.﴾ It is not permissible to pay the for a day except after the dawn of that day has appeared. It is permissible to pay the fidyah for the entire month after it has ended, or day by day.

It is permissible to give the fidyah for the entire month to one poor person or to a poor family. The fidyah is estimated at 750 grams of rice (or the prevalent staple food of the country) for each day, and half a saa' (1.5 kilograms) is preferable as a precaution.
