Is a wife obligated to obey a husband who wrongs her, neglects her, spends his time working outside and inside the home in front of screens, orders her to go to sleep alone, and obeys his family in all their demands, even if it involves injustice to his wife?

It is not permissible for a husband to wrong his wife or deny her rights. He must treat her kindly, be a companion to her, and assist her in household chores. A wife is not obligated to obey her husband in everything he commands her, nor should a husband compel his wife to do things that are not legally required of her by Islamic law, such as ordering her to sleep if she does not wish to. We advise both spouses to counsel each other gently and kindly, to respect one another, and to seek assistance from people of virtue for reconciliation when needed.
