Artificial insemination is forbidden, but it does not carry the same ruling as adultery in every respect. Both are (forbidden) and require repentance. The child born from it is not attributed to the donor of the sperm. It differs from adultery in that the perpetrator is not subject to the prescribed punishment (hadd), nor are the prohibitions related to marriage to a chaste woman that apply to an adulterer applicable in his case.
