What is the ruling on breaking multiple oaths regarding different types of food with the intention of losing weight, and is a single expiation required for them, or multiple expiations, especially since the number of oaths is not remembered? What is the ruling on disregarding the whispers of wudu' and purity despite feeling guilty? And is it permissible to pray while feeling the urge to use the restroom?
With regard to oaths, one refers to the intention of the swearer. So, if he intended to abstain from a food until he reached a certain weight, he breaks his oath if he eats from it before reaching that weight. Breaking an oath is not forbidden unless the oath was to perform an obligation or avoid a forbidden act.
If one swore multiple oaths concerning different matters, the majority of scholars obligate an expiation for each oath. It has also been said that a single expiation suffices if he breaks all of them before performing the expiation. When in doubt about the number of oaths, the lesser number is binding because the default is freedom from liability.
One should disregard and ignore obsessive thoughts (waswas). There is no connection between obsessive thoughts and drawing closer to Allah; a Muslim is required to draw closer to his Lord in all circumstances. The feeling resulting from obsessive thoughts must be ignored, and one should promptly perform the prayer.
