Is it permissible to intend an act of charity (sadaqah) after giving money to the poor?

Charity (Sadaqa) is an act of drawing closer to Allah Almighty and requires intention (niyyah). The time for the intention is at the beginning of the act of worship. Deeds for which a person is rewarded are divided into three categories: First, those that are inherently for Allah, such as glorification (tasbih) and the call to prayer (adhan). One is rewarded for these with or without intention, as long as there is no corrupt intention. Second, those that are not inherently for Allah. These require an intention to perform the act and an intention to draw closer to Allah. Giving money to others falls into this category. Third, those that are legislated for worldly benefits and have no connection to otherworldly benefits except subordinately, such as fulfilling obligatory rights and learning worldly crafts. One is not rewarded for these unless there is an intention to draw closer to Allah.
