What is the legal ruling in Islamic law regarding shunning a family that does not fear Allah, whose members live in corruption and commit forbidden acts, after continuous attempts at advice have failed? And is it permissible to shun one's mother and sisters, for whom one is responsible, in this case?

First: Patience, for it is one of the best means of solace during adversity, and optimism for good, as adversity may carry ease within its folds.

Second: Supplication and seeking refuge in Allah, for He is the dispeller of worries and the answerer of the distressed's prayer. Increase supplication for your family, for Allah is capable of rectifying them.

Third: Resolve to try and rectify your family and guide them by advising them in the best manner, listening to admonitions, seeking help from influential callers (to Islam), and for the reformer to be a good role model.

Fourth: Seriousness and firmness, without violence, in preventing corruption in the home, while noting that reproaching parents is not the same as reproaching others.

Fifth: If staying in the home harms one's religion, there is no sin in leaving it and moving away from the family, for obedience to parents is obligatory in what is good. If it is possible to stay and strive to preserve one's religion through circles of knowledge and the company of good people, then be patient with them; perhaps your stay with them will be a cause for their rectification.
