A Muslim must show mercy to those who differ with him, apologize to them, and be gentle with them. Disparaging and belittling sinners indicates serious ailments such as self-admiration and arrogance, which can be more dangerous than apparent sins. He should also show mercy to his family, be compassionate and gentle with them, avoiding harshness and severity. He should be patient and not hasten the appearance of results from his advice. He should beware of seeking victory for himself when his advice is not accepted, and he should choose appropriate times and circumstances for giving advice with the gentlest words. He should also endear himself to them through gifts and various forms of honor.
