What is the ruling on prayer and ablution if one wiped over the khuff (leather socks or boots) and then removed them for prayer, knowing that the remaining socks are not firm and do not meet the condition of continuous walking?

It is permissible to wipe over boots or socks if they meet the conditions for wiping. It is also permissible to wipe over boots worn over socks, as this is akin to wiping over sandals worn over socks, which is established in the Sunnah. If the boots cover the obligatory area for washing, and the questioner wipes over them while wearing socks and then prays with them without removing the boots, her prayer is valid, even if the socks are not firm or have holes.

If she removes the boots after wiping over them but before praying, Sheikh al-Islam Ibn Taymiyyah held the view that the ablution remains valid. Accordingly, the prayers performed in that state are valid. However, it is not advisable to do this in the future to avoid scholarly disagreement. It is preferable to pray while wearing the boots that were wiped over, provided they are free from impurity.
