There are no specific questions mandated by Islamic law to be posed to a woman one intends to propose to. There is no harm in the suitor asking what he needs to know. It is advisable, during the proposal, to focus on the matter of sight (i.e., seeing the woman). As for other matters, reliable individuals who know her, such as family or neighbors, should be consulted. Regarding the importance of consulting trustworthy individuals, Muslim narrated that Fatimah bint Qays (may Allah be pleased with her) came to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and said: "Mu'awiyah ibn Abi Sufyan and Abu Jahm proposed to me." The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "As for Abu Jahm, he never puts down his stick from his shoulder (i.e., he travels a lot or is a harsh man), and as for Mu'awiyah, he is a destitute man with no wealth. Marry Usamah ibn Zayd." You have done well by being keen to marry a religious girl, as the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Marry the religious woman, and you will prosper." This is also because the world is but a provision, and the best provision of the world is a righteous woman. This is all with the importance of performing Istikhara (prayer for guidance) in marriage and in all permissible matters.
