The answer

Ibn Kathir mentioned in his Tafsir (exegesis) of the verse: "Indeed, Allah and His angels send blessings upon the Prophet. O you who have believed, ask [Allah to confer] blessing upon him and greet him with [explicit] salutation," several formulas for sending blessings upon the Prophet, which can be used inside and outside of prayer. Sending blessings with the reported (ma'thur) wordings is better, but there is no harm in sending blessings with non-reported wordings as long as they do not contain a legal prohibition. The matter outside of prayer is broad regarding the possibility of sending blessings with non-reported wordings.
