Is it permissible to say: "Chart your own life path," and does this contradict [God's] will?

The aforementioned statement does not contradict belief in God's will and decree. Rather, it means taking the necessary steps to achieve goals. It has been authentically narrated from the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, that he said: "Be keen on what benefits you and seek help from Allah," which combines exerting effort and entrusting matters to Allah. Allah has affirmed a will for the servant by saying: "For whoever wills among you to take a straight path," and He followed it with His saying: "But you cannot will unless Allah wills, the Lord of the worlds," to emphasize that everything occurs by His will and decree.
