What is the wisdom behind the sinner – whose repentance Allah has accepted – remaining veiled from Allah? Is this veil a punishment or an expiation for sins? And how does the servant reach his Lord, hate what He hates, and love in Him?

A penitent person, after repentance, does not remain veiled. Rather, they may strive in obedience and surpass those who have not committed the sin. The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "The one who repents from sin is like one who has no sin." Thus, the penitent is not punished for the sin from which they repented, as Ibn Taymiyyah said: "The essence of our saying is that the penitent will not be punished, neither in this world nor in the hereafter, neither by religious law nor by divine decree."

To achieve connection with Allah and to despise what Allah despises, one should adopt the means of faith, such as pondering over the Quran, reflecting on death, associating with the righteous, adhering to remembrance (dhikr) and supplication (du'a), and asking Allah for steadfastness.

As for attaining love for the sake of Allah, it is achieved by magnifying Allah's command and knowing that the lasting and beneficial thing is love for His sake, and that everything else is fleeting, in concordance with His statement, the Almighty: "Close friends on that Day will be enemies to each other, except for the righteous." Thus, beneficial friendship and affection are those that are for Allah and in Allah, and relationships should be built upon this foundation.
