Is it permissible for a teacher to order a student to kneel or crouch on his knees for punishment?
It is impermissible for a teacher to order a student to do something that humiliates them, such as kneeling or being tortured. The student must not obey the teacher in such a matter and should report it to the administration or the Ministry of Education. The teacher should treat students with gentleness, kindness, and good character, for Allah Almighty says: "And speak to people good [words]" and "So by mercy from Allah, [O Muhammad], you were lenient with them. And if you had been rude [in speech] and harsh in heart, they would have disbanded from about you." And the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "Indeed, a man attains by his good character the ranks of those who pray at night and fast during the day," and "Nothing is heavier in the Scale than good character."
