What is the ruling on obeying a father who will be angry with his son until the Day of Resurrection if he accompanies or speaks with anyone who talks about politics, knowing that the son is a university student and everyone around him talks about politics, and what is the Muslim's duty towards current events?

Filial piety is one of the most obligatory acts of obedience and greatest acts of devotion. Allah has conjoined His right with the right of parents in several verses. If your father prevents you from engaging in politics out of compassion, then you must outwardly honor him and manage him, while striving to help your oppressed brethren by supplicating for them during times of answered prayer. It is difficult to definitively rule on the permissibility of entering politics without parental permission, because the matter differs between what is an individual obligation (fard al-ayn) and what is a collective obligation (fard al-kifaya). In the case of an individual obligation, one does not seek permission from the parent, because obedience to Allah takes precedence. However, in the case of a collective obligation, it is obligatory to seek his permission.
